Safe & Inclusive Schools
Building safe and inclusive school environments for every student is a top priority for the Campbell River School District. All our students need to feel safe, welcome and positively reflected in their schools.
Peer Conflict, Mean Behaviour or Bullying
When a child is having a problem with a peer it can be hard for parents or their friends to know exactly what is happening. Is it bullying or is the other child just being unkind? Bullying is intentional and repeated behaviour that makes others feel uncomfortable, scared or hurt. Learn what bullying is and how to stand up against it.
Anonymous Reporting Tool for BC Students
Students and parents are encouraged to take action against bullying behaviour. The erase|Report It tool lets you send a secure, anonymous and confidential message to your school or school district’s safe school coordinator, who will follow up on it right away. You do not have to provide your name unless you want to.
Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI)
Our schools and school district strive to be inclusive of all individuals regardless of where they identify on the sexual orientation or gender identity spectrums. Diversity exists within schools and our communities, and there is an increasing awareness to be inclusive and to have all students, families and staff reflected in the curriculum and school life. In September 2022, the BC Minister of Education and Child Care and K-12 education partners' issued a statement on support for SOGI. School districts in the province use SOGI 123, a resource to assist in helping us build inclusive environments for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Learn more about SOGI in the Province of British Columbia and see this Q&A of frequently asked questions from the Campbell River School District.
Racism
Our schools and school district believes diversity should be celebrated and we strive to ensure that our schools are safe places where students of all ethnicities are celebrated and have equal opportunities to learn, grow and achieve their full potential. We continue to challenge and are actively working to address systemic bias. Learn more about racism and actions you can take to be anti-racist.
