School District Adopts New Vision, Mission, and Values Statements
The Board of Education for the Campbell River School District has adopted new vision, mission, and values statements following a thorough public engagement process. These updated statements will guide the district's strategic planning and daily operations, ensuring that the district is responsive, inclusive, and future-focused.
The development process for the new vision, mission, and values began in May, with over 713 people participating in an initial survey. Based on the feedback received, the board presented three new options for each statement. These options were then circulated through a second survey, which closed on September 19 with 944 participants, including 655 parents, 191 staff, 76 students, and 12 community members. The most popular options, based on participant feedback, were formally approved by the board on October 15 at a public board meeting.
Vision Statement
"A responsive and dynamic learning environment where all students can realize their unique potential."
This new vision reflects the district's focus on fostering student success through adaptable learning environments. It was a clear favourite among survey respondents, who praised its clarity.
Mission Statement
"To develop well-rounded individuals who are prepared to meet the challenges of the future with resilience, responsibility, and respect."
The mission statement reflects the district's commitment to holistic student development, focusing on equipping learners with the skills they need to thrive in a changing world. This option received high support from staff, parents and students.
Values Statement
"Learning comes first. Equity is key. Diversity is valued. Responsibility and respect are essential."
This choice was particularly popular with students, who appreciated the simpler, more direct language. The board discussed the importance of using accessible language to reflect the district’s inclusive approach, contrasting this with an alternative option that had more formal institutional phrasing.
The feedback from our students, families, staff, and community members was essential in shaping these new guiding statements. The collaborative development process ensures that our district is aligned with the values and aspirations of those we serve.
