SD72 Welcomes Education Delegation from Taipei

School District 72 welcomed a delegation from the Taipei City Government Ministry of Education this week, continuing a partnership that has connected students in Taiwan and Campbell River for more than a decade.

The relationship began in 2012 when SD72 signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taipei City Government to participate in a scholarship program that gives students the opportunity to study abroad. Since then, Campbell River has welcomed students from Taipei each year, helping young people experience Canadian education, culture, and community life while attending local schools.

The scholarship program has grown significantly over the years and now provides opportunities for students to study in destinations across Canada and the United States. Campbell River remains one of the Canadian school districts participating in the program.

During their visit, the delegation met with district leaders and staff to learn more about education in SD72. Discussions highlighted Indigenous education, student-centred approaches to teaching and learning, and homestay opportunities that support international students during their time in Campbell River. The group also toured local schools to see learning in action.

For SD72 students, international partnerships help create opportunities to build intercultural understanding and global awareness. Welcoming students and educators from other countries enriches school communities and encourages connections that extend beyond local borders.

The visit was also an opportunity to showcase the work happening in SD72 classrooms while learning from education leaders responsible for one of the largest public education systems in Taiwan.

School District 72 thanks the delegation for visiting Campbell River and looks forward to continuing a partnership that has benefited students and strengthened cultural connections for more than a decade.
